A Java application for making comics from videos. Start with any video signal or file, even ones you shoot yourself. ShortCut Comix combines a video player that displays multiple consecutive video frames with a comics editor for simpifying video images and editing attributed text in automatically-resizing comic balloons. Seeing several consecutive frames at once helps people understand how the illusion of motion is achieved from still frames and makes it easier to determine exactly which still image best portrays an action. Below the multi-frame player is a grid of still-frames, the output of sampling the video sequence. Short videos are sampled linearly, while longer videos use shot detection and keyframe selection sampling strategies. Each still-frame is a button that jumps the player to that frame. The buttons can be selected during playback, turning the player into a simple video mixer for creating original video performances.
